Popbasic Previews

I’m working on catching up with my backlog of subscription reviews (please forgive me – I’ve been traveling around the world, literally!). In the meantime, here are some previews of upcoming Popbasic collections:

untitled (41 of 210)

The Frankie Collection will be available later this month. It consists of a scarf, a shirt, and a belt.

I have Popbasic’s Le Breton shirt in every color (which is two so far: white/navy and white/red). I will buy it in any color it ever comes out in. It is soft, durable, fits well, and the perfect balance of not sheer but not heavy fabric. So when I saw that they were making a dress, I am not ashamed to admit, I lost my mind a little bit. I. Cannot. Wait. I love the fit on it – a swingy fit and flare – the color, the length, and the 3/4 sleeves, and will be scooping it up as soon as it comes out!

A side note – Popbasic is a little above my price point for clothing (and, I’d imagine, some of yours too). It’s worth the splurge; I promise. Their clothes wear well, wash well, and last forever.

Sizing: I am 155 lbs 34DD/28/38. A medium in Popbasic fits me well.

Referrals: I will receive a $15 credit if you make a purchase using my Popbasic link.

Golden Tote: July 2014 Review

Golden Tote offers monthly clothing totes for $49 (pick one piece of clothing, be surprised with 1-2) or $149 (pick 2 pieces, be surprised with 3-4).

image

I loved the actual tote this month. Delta Gamma instilled a lifelong appreciation of anchors in me.

image

I picked up a $149 tote and added on a top and belt, and also picked a $49 tote. Golden Tote comes with styling cards for items you’ve picked. I didn’t pick or receive the Summer Breeze dress: hopefully no one is missing their card!

image

My $49 tote pick was the Striped Swing Dress. Puella dresses are so comfortable and high quality, and buying them from GT is a steal compared to Anthropologie. I paired it with the rope dress from the boutique.

image

My surprise item in the $49 tote was this paisley dress from Priddy, which is Golden Tote’s private label. I love everything by Priddy, and this dress was very flattering.

image

I love the back!

image

My first pick in the $149 tote was this Esley Maxi. This dress is the main reason I bought totes this month, and it did not disappoint. I love the color, the fit, the fabric, the slits…

image

…the pockets…

image

…and the back!

image

My second pick was this maxi by Hourglass Lily. I have two of their dresses and am a fan of their fit and soft fabric.

image

I added on this Gone Yachting top. It was a hard choice between the red and the mint, but I’m happy I stuck with the red.

image

My first surprise: a floral top by Cut and Sew by Golden Tote. The brand makes me curious; another GT private label? It’s not something I ever would have picked for myself, but I love it!

image

I also loved these pants! If only they weren’t too small. They’re white linen by a brand named Jolie. They’re will find a good home on the trading group.

image

As will this skirt by Promesa. It’s a little too form-fitting in my rear, and I don’t really have any tops to go with it.

image

I also wasn’t in love with this mint top; it’s not a good color or fit for me and the arms were too tight.

Verdict: 6 out of 9 isn’t too shabby (and those pants would have been a hit of they had fit!). I’m happy with my totes this month, and am so in love with that Esley Maxi.

Sizing: I am 160 lbs, 34DD/28/38. All items were Medium except the Gone Yachting top (Large) and Puella dress (Small).

Sneak Peek: Popbasic Jane Collection

Image

I am digging Popbasic’s upcoming Jane Collection, available July 1st.

Image

They had me at pink…

Image

… and at delicate gold jewelry.

Image

No word on cost yet, but you will be able to buy each clothing piece in individual sizes, and shipping is free worldwide. I’ve been thrilled with the quality of their clothing, and their rapid and friendly customer service.

Image

Also, their popular Le Breton top is available for pre-order in red on July 8th. I can’t wait for my black-and-white one to arrive!

Image

I spy a Korean beauty product! Could this be a surprise bonus?

Golden Tote: June 2014 Review

Curated by the designers of the Puella clothing line, Golden Tote is a monthly mix of clothing for $49 (pick one clothing item and be surprised with 1-2 extras) or $149 (pick two pieces of clothing and be surprised with 3-5 extras). They’ve also just introduced an all-surprise $99 tote in the boutique.

Totes go on sale the first Monday of the month at 9 AM Pacific. You’ll want to be on the site at exactly that time; pieces sell out quickly! This month, I picked the $149 tote.

My friend Nubia offered to take pictures – no bathroom selfies this time! You can find her amazing photos on Pets of Seattle, and she showcases her creative designs in her Zazzle store.

I’ve been drooling over this Puella Tamsin Maxi at Anthropologie but couldn’t justify the $118 price tag. When they made the Puella Chevron Midi Dress from the same fabric as a choice for this month’s tote, It became the main reason I bought one.

I also love the bow detail on the back, which you can see in this photo from the Golden Tote site.

My second chosen item was the Summer Striped dress. I’m a fan of dresses with pockets, and this dress is exceptionally well made, featuring an inner lining and soft, summery fabric.

You can dress it up or down: I added some red heels for punch.

My first surprise item was this nautical tee from Porridge. I first fell in love with the brand when Golden Tote featured their Surprise Ending Tee.

I was thrilled to add more Porridge to my closet, especially when our boat tour guide complimented the figure eight knot pattern: very cool!

I paired my next two surprise items together: a grey and white lace tank and Priddy Slouch Pants (which I turned into capris in the bike photo above).

The Puella girls design and create the Priddy line exclusively for Golden Tote, and I’m a fan of their buttery soft fabric and comfortable fit.

My final surprise item – an Hourglass Lily wrap dress – wasn’t featured in the shoot. I traded it on the Golden Tote Trading Group for an extra of a dress I had that shrank in the dryer. A word of warning: don’t let your Golden Tote clothes see the inside of a dryer, ever!

Verdict: Golden Tote is hands-down my favorite “subscription.” (in quotes because it’s a one-time monthly purchase with no recurring billing) You do need to launder your clothes gently, be on the site as soon as a sale starts so your picks don’t sell out, sizing can be inconsistent, and customer response time can be slow due to the volume of emails they receive.
However, the value, quality, fit, style, uniqueness, and comfort of the pieces is unmatched. The owners are incredibly involved and approachable, keeping the community informed with sneak peeks and asking for and listening to feedback. Their customer service bends over backwards to make you happy. The Golden Tote Trading Group is a welcoming forum for trading, selling, and buying clothing. Most of my closet is made up of Golden Tote, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Sizing: I am 5’4″ 160 lbs 34DD/28/38. All pieces are Medium and fit well.

Referral: I will receive a $10 credit if you purchase a Golden Tote through my link.

Le Tote: May 31, 2014 Review

image

For around $50 a month, Le Tote sends a mix of clothing and accessories. Keep what you like at a discount; send back what you don’t. Shipping is 2-day both ways.

image

I’m a little disappointed to keep getting warm weather fashion in 80 degree heat. This Sanctuary Racer Jacket was soft and warm. And will be returned unworn.

image

I like these simple, fun, subtle Rose Gold Skull Earrings. I wore them with a couple different outfits this week.

image

I was on the fence about this Daniella Side Slit Tank (it’s pretty sheer and I’m still not sure I can pull off orange with pink and purple highlights), but one of my coworkers told me I looked really nice in it and everything changed. I love my coworkers.

image

The final accessory was this Jade Dynasty Ring. What I love about Le Tote’s rings is they’re adjustable; no sizing required.

image

I’d had this Sophie Batik Blouse in My Closet for a while and was excited to finally get to try it out. It was comfortable and versatile, and cool in the heat. I’d be happy to see it in another box.

Verdict: Aside from the jacket, everything in this box was a success. I started subscribing to Le Tote as part of a heavily discounted Gilt City deal, which runs out this month, but I’ll happily start paying full price. In this tote alone, I tried out $218 worth of clothes and jewelry, and I usually get around three totes a month. Their customer service is a joy to work with, and they remain one of my favorite subscriptions of all time.

Referral: I will receive a $25 credit if you subscribe using my Le Tote link.

Le Tote: May 10, 2014 Review

For around $50 a month, you can rent an unlimited amount of totes (one at a time) containing clothing and accessories from Le Tote. Totes are shipped via 2-day shipping, and you can keep whatever you like for a discount, or send it back.

image

Le Tote also lets you browse their collection and add your favorites to Your Closet, so you end up getting mostly items you’ve favorited, with the occasional surprise from your stylist. I picked this Art Deco Blouse specifically to go with my Popbasic skirt,  and I like the way it turned out. The shirt was comfy and breathable for summer; if I needed more tops, I would have kept it.

image

This Kensie Aubrie Dress.  I am SO in love. It is my favorite thing I have received in any Le Tote so far. It was comfortable, durable, flattering… Confession time: I did some Internet hunting to try to find it at a better price than Le Tote… nope. Le Tote had everyone beat by at least $15. Even so, I can’t justify spending $54 at this exact moment with a trip to Vegas less than a month away but dress… I have my eye on you. (note that this was also part of the First Look program for members: you can request pieces before they’re live on the site – very cool!)

image

I wore it with these Black Riot Stud Earrings for a simple jewelry touch.

image

This Cascade Jewel Necklace was a lot of fun. What I couldn’t manage to capture in a picture was the opalescent shimmer it has, which was my favorite thing about it. I paired it with a white tee for some pop. I’m not a big statement necklace kinda girl, but this was another First Look piece, and I enjoyed being the first to wear it!

image

What I love about Le Tote is I’m able to go outside my comfort zone,  because I know I can send things back. And this BCBGeneration dress was waaay outside of my comfort zone.

image

Especially because I couldn’t get it to zip!

image

I went with one of my Golden Tote staples instead.

Verdict: I can’t stop thinking about that Kensie dress. I kept it in my Le Tote closet and hope it gets sent again. I’d like to try a colored slip underneath next time. I enjoyed the other pieces too (except maybe that last dress!) and am looking forward to my next tote!

Referrals: I will receive a $25 credit if you sign up for Le Tote using my link. You and I receive a $15 Popbasic credit purchasing through my link. I will receive a $10 Golden Tote credit if you purchase a tote through my link.

Sneak Peek: Popbasic June 2014

Image

Is it just me or is that a TonyMoly Bunny Gloss Bar? Just when I thought I couldn’t love Popbasic any more, they go and feed my addiction to all things Korean…

Image

Maddy from Popbasic gave me a preview of their Le Breton top in red. I ordered one in black this month and with all the rave reviews it already has, no doubt I’ll be picking it up on red too. I’d love to pair it with skinny jeans, wedges, and a red lip, though maybe I’ll just settle for a red VW bug:

Image

Coming in June is their Paloma Collection:

Image

In Seattle, we can get away with scarves year-round. This Grey Striped Infinity Scarf is perfect for pairing with dresses or t-shirts.

Image

Speaking of t-shirts, the Paloma Collection includes a Basic White Tee. I wear white tees until there are holes in them, so goodness knows I could use a new one. Popbasic’s tops are soft and durable, so I’ll get quite a few wears out of it until that happens!

Image

I love the contrast of grey with the rose gold zipper on this pouch. I’m a little disappointed that it’s leather; I really prefer to stay away from it, and they did such a good job with their vegan leather skirt last month, I’d love to see more pieces in that same material. Though with the quality of Popbasic and their fabulous style, I may just pick up the Paloma Collection and find a good home for the pouch!

Referrals: You and I both receive a $15 credit if you make a purchase through my Popbasic link.
